Fee-Only Financial Planning, Investment Management & Education

One size does not fit all when it comes to financial strategies. Simple, flat fees allow me to focus on a strategy specifically designed to suit different needs, life stages, and budgets.  The fees are listed below and do not include any applicable taxes.

Want the clarity that comes with a more detailed, comprehensive financial strategy? You’ll receive a comprehensive, customized financial plan and supporting data to help you meet your goals.  This is ideal for people experiencing major life events or transitions, such as beginning their career, starting a family, marriage, buying a home, changing careers, preparing for retirement, inheriting assets, divorce, or loss of a close loved one. Regardless of your situation, this flat fee includes the time to build and refine a detailed plan, develop an action plan and to-do list. Further assistance for plan implementation and additional updates would be billed at the hourly rate of $250. Special student rates and flexible payment plans are available.

If you have a few specific questions or want a second financial opinion, I’ll work with you to understand and evaluate your situation and make recommendations. This is ideal for people who may have another financial advisor, or for those DIY-ers who just want a professional consultant from time to time. Customized financial wellness webinars are also available at this rate and are negotiable based on scope of work.

If you have a complex situation and want extended support and unlimited access to financial guidance when you need it over the course of a year, this retainer model might be for you. Rather than worry about how much time it might take to answer your questions as they come up, all time necessary to answer your questions and/or assist you in your next steps is included. This is ideal for existing ClariFinancial clients, or for those in a longer transitional period who may have changing situations and financial needs in the foreseeable future, such as starting a family, going through divorce, preparing for retirement, or settling an estate. Flexible payment plans are available.

Fee-based vs. Fee-only

What’s the difference?

There are very few advisors who charge a flat fee or an hourly fee for their services. So, people often ask: What is hourly or flat fee-only financial planning? How is it different from “fee-based” or “regular” financial planning?
I’m happy to explain…

Fee-based

is the most common approach. Fee-based financial advisors may charge a fee based on the amount of assets they sell and manage for you, the assets under management (AUM). For most, the goal is to maximize AUM in order to maximize revenue, which is why most required a minimum account balance and cater to "high-net worth" clients. Industry-wide, the average AUM fee is 0.96%. As your AUM grows, the more you’ll pay, though most advisors discount your fee after you reach certain thresholds. When your investments aren't performing well, the less you'll pay. These advisors may also accept commissions from sales of products, including insurance agents.

Fee-only

advisors and planners, like myself, don’t get paid commissions or sell products, though we may be paid based upon AUM.  Most fee-only advisors focus on creating financial plans and updating those plans as needed. We may charge an hourly fee or flat fee for planning services, and/or a flat or percentage fee based on AUM (or hybrid of both). Some advisors may not charge for planning services if you have a minimum amount of AUM with them. With my clients, all potential fees and services provided are explicitly stated in our planning agreement. This way, you know what you're paying for and why upfront, and don't have to worry about any hidden costs or surprises.

If you like the idea of not having to figure out an investment strategy and manage it on your own, this might be the solution for you. In exchange for a competitive account balance-based fee, all of the work can be done for you to create a personalized and suitable investment portfolio that is monitored and rebalanced on a regular basis. Your portfolio would be tailored to your particular goals, timeframe and risk tolerance. There is no investment minimum. This service is well-suited for busy professionals who don't have the time to do the necessary research,  implementation and active monitoring on their own, or for individuals who may not have the interest, comfort level or track record of success to invest and manage their account(s) on their own. A separate investment management agreement would be required and fees are deducted directly from account balances on a quarterly basis. Additional planning services would be charged separately.

Education and Business Support

I work with organizations as well as individuals. Organizations may want to provide financial consultation or education to help their employees maximize benefits and reach their financial goals. Having an independent, unbiased educational resource gives employees valuable information without sales or conflicts.  My services could include formal presentations to small or large groups, one-on-one consultations with individuals, in-depth personalized financial planning, or customized financial education materials about retirement plan options or investment strategies. The fees for organizations are negotiated at the time the services are contracted and generally involve an hourly rate of $200.00 an hour plus gross receipts tax.

The establishment of plan pricing will be done by Clarissa Krinsky and the client at the time of the initial consultation.
